Kathmandu: The incidence of dengue infection in the country has been increasing recently, particularly due to the onset of the monsoon season. Dr. Gokarna Dahal from the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division has reported a rise in the number of dengue patients.
The current season poses a high risk for the spread of dengue, as mosquito larvae are thriving in rainwater puddles. Dr. Dahal further revealed that since the beginning of 2023, a total of 1,024 individuals have been diagnosed with dengue. Unfortunately, one person from Sunsari has succumbed to the infection this year.
According to the records of the Division, there are currently 46 dengue patients in Kathmandu, 12 in Lalitpur, and 35 in Bhaktapur. Among the districts, Darchula has the highest number of dengue cases with 187, followed by Dhading with 131, Sunsari with 75, Kaski with 66, and Myagdi with 29.
It is evident that the prevalence of dengue is a matter of concern, and appropriate measures need to be taken to address this public health issue. Efforts to control mosquito breeding grounds and raise awareness about preventive measures should be intensified to combat the increasing incidence of dengue infection in the country.
